Reference photo below at the end. Acrylic on canvas. I used Adobe lightroom to freshen up the image and take out the glare of the photo and show the texture of the paint. I did my best to keep the colors the same.
This is my beginning, I laid out the water and sky, added in some clouds. I also sketched the lighthouse out before I put the first layer down. You can barely see the graphite in there.
I used a 2h pencil.
I painted the back island first with the shrubbery. Then I added in the two land stretches after that and added some texture to the water.
This is nearly complete. I was nervous about painting the wild grass as I've never attempted grass before in this medium on a serious painting. I'm very proud of this painting.
This is my reference photo. I live 22 minutes from this lighthouse, and have been there many times. I just didn't have any reference photos on hand, so I used Adobes stock image library. I intend to sell the painting. The image library is free use.
Cockspur Island Lighthouse Sunny Day
I have included my reference photo from adobe stock images library and photos of my progress.
I dedicate this painting to my uncle mike and aunt kristy. They kept so many lighthouse paintings in their house growing up, which always inspired me. I am so incredibly proud of this painting, as I feel I have come very far without having achieved my art degree. I've worked very hard to get where I am.
My medium is acrylic paint. I did not use any gels other than the matte varnish on top. This is on traditional canvas.
The image is of a lighthouse that is 22 minutes from where I live. It's Cockspur island lighthouse located about 15 minutes from Tybee Island off of Georga's coast. It's a beautiful location that I have personally visited many times. If you have never gone, definitely stop by the lighthouse and Fort Pulaski.
